Freakshow (remix)

Okay, as the title implies, we were once again the “Freak show in your neighborhood”, as our good friend Toby Mac likes to sing. In my infinite wisdom, I decided that for my birthday I would like the family to come to ZJG for the day and see the other city I live in….

The highlights:

  • No one got arrested
  • Ugly Naked Guy(s) made no appearance
  • The food was good and no one got sick
  • Hang Lei made great time getting to ZJG and getting home
  • People in ZJG rarely see two white people in the same day; much less six Berg’s strolling down the street and through their stores. I don’t think anyone was injured by running into things as they drove/rode/walked past us while staring….
  • Levi thinks he may have been the first customer ever for one of the stores they were in….
Jacob and Levi are local celebrities in my apartment complex. They were playing with a basketball outside and people started taking pictures.
  • While dinning (that's how the sign spells it!), some coworkers came into the restaurant and saw the family enjoying our slow dinning experience. Upon finding out that it was my birthday, they alerted the staff and I got to hear “Happy Birthday” sung with a Chinese accent.
  • The cool flower candle on my apple pie. As you lit the candles, it started playing “Happy Birthday” and then bloomed. The bad part was that I couldn't get it to stop playing, so I had to destroy it to silence it. Some of you may get to see them when we get home. I don’t know if they will be confiscated as fireworks going through customs.
  • Hang Lei got a little more acquainted with the town, so it will be easier for him to drive me around while I stay in ZJG and Natalie and the kids are in the States.
  • No one got carsick and hoarked, but Noah threatened to do so at one point.
  • After Natalie and the kids headed back to Shanghai, I got to watch the movie, “Unforgiven”, with Clint Eastwood. It was a good movie for those who have not seen it; however, the “R” rating does apply for violence and some language.
  • I GOT TO SPEND ALMOST THE WHOLE DAY WITH MY FAMILY!

See y’all soon, Mark

I'm confused, Mark! Do you have to work that far away from the apartment? I know somewhere in all of the blogs I must have read about this but I don't seem to remember how that all went. Just think of all of the entertainment you are to those Chinese people. What experiences those kids are getting!! I'm sure they will never ever forget this time in China.

It sounds like you had a nice birthday! How lucky can a guy get to be King for a day on Sunday and than again so soon afterward??

Have a great day in the Lord!!!

Mark,

Sounds like you had a great birthday.

Hope the candles make it through so we can see them.

Just 9 more days you will be back home!!! Can't wait.

Oh My...some more China experiences never to be forgotten. I'm so glad the kids and Natalie could spend the day with you for your birthday, Mark. That was neat!
Sounds like that Noah has a bit of a tender stomach...hang in there Noah and keep it down.
We love you all and we sure are looking forward to your visit. Grandma promised apple pie here for you.
Take care now,
Mom R
