> it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
a little Mr. Rogers flashback. Dan M. tried to send me a link to Mr. Robinson's neighborhood (SNL), but I cannot view Hulu in China.
> want to go to there...
30 Rock reference. Liz Lemon is always seeing things she wants and using this phrase. At the time, I wanted to go to a baseball game.
> wondering which driver that tried to kill me has filed a grievance against me.
Mr. Cheng decided that we had committed injustices against him. If any of you got to meet him and ride in a car with him, I am pretty sure you would know he had it backward.
> Being in the pool was fine in the thunderstorm until the laowai got out. then it was time to clear everyone out because it was unsafe!
Nat, Elise, and I went swimming with friends. It had been thundering for awhile, but when the lightning started I decided to get out. As soon as my feet left the pool, the Chinese lifeguards started blowing their whistles to throw everyone out. Safety here is really just a suggestion...
> had a great night with my woman! found competition for Shannon at golf!
we went to Chrissy's house to play cards (golf is the game). Chrissy's roommate Amy is just as bad at the game as our friend Shiloh's sister, Shannon.
> @johngriese nice...
A response to my friend, John, keeping me sane with one of his posts.
> feel like i am living in the human humidor!
Most days in August in Shanghai it is about 120F when you factor in the heat index. It is like living in a steam bath when you walk outside. You know it is bad when the backs of your knees are sweating and you are standing up wearing shorts.
> going through the house identifying different types and quantity of burnt-out lightbulbs. then i just have to figure out how to reach them.
Our new house has fixtures about 20 feet in the air. The good news is that Hong got them replaced. The bad news is that the replacement bulbs are a different shade of white than the rest!
> ready to see Shanghai !
I had been in China for a week, but had only been in Shanghai for about 8 hours. I went out with Natalie on errands and got to see Shanghai in the daylight.
> i can see facebook on a dell, but cannot accept anything...
China has pretty much any site that allows you to express an opinion blocked. One of the free proxies I was using did not allow me to select buttons on Facebook.
> Finally found a proxy that will work on a Dell. Now that I'm on Facebook I forgot how painfully slow this is in China ...
I got used to the speed of the internet in the US. Once I got back here, I quickly remembered that you can cook lunch most times in between getting relevant information for which you are looking.
> sitting at mbs waiting for the late plane. been assured we wont miss our connection.
Time to go home! We made all of our flights!
> 1 hour until the airport
Everything is packed and waiting for friends to help us pack-up and go home.
> thinking the other side of the world really isn't that far away.
I was reflecting on how long the flight to China is, but knowing that when we went home more people would be coming to visit us this year.
> !!FARKLE!! this...
Playing Farkle on Facebook. I had another of my favorite -1500 point games!
> saw a fleeting glimpse of @johngriese's motivation, reached for it, and came up empty handed.
John was trying to get motivated. I was trying to help him find it, but didn't.
> missing all my ghetto peeps (new and old)!
We had just returned from Seattle visiting Daryl and Shiloh. This was one of those days where I was missing the friends we have in China and the friends we have in North America.
> finally have my kindle back in operation!
Somewhere in our North American world travels, I lost my Kindle charger. Those of you who know how much I like my technology and how much more I like reading will understand.
> hey, what you doing? what going on here?
The punchline to one of Steve Shafer's favorite stories. It cracks everyone up when I tell it.

Mark...nice to see the blog active again, even if it's mainly twitter posts!:-) We're happy that you are all safely back home in China. You will be missed here, though. How did everything go with college visits for E?
Take care, and hopefully we'll be reading more about your lives this year. Hugs to the family!
~ Betsy
