Hello Everyone,
Head to Toe rox my sox. With massages, a haircut, and ur hair washed man thats a package deal-Jacob
I will start with answering blog questions. Deb, I woke up hearing birds sing today. So, apparently they are here somewhere. They must fly high in the smog. I haven't seen much else here. I think we have a cat lady in our complex because there are a few cats that roam around. I see a lot of dogs, but I don't know if those are their pets or if they are just fattening them up for the next holiday:) Betsy, I don't know why it is that we feel so safe in this city. I don't want you to think that everything is grandiose here though. You do have to be careful of pickpocketers. They are especially out around Chinese New Year because that is the biggest holiday of the year. So for any ladies who are coming to visit, we'll get you a purse with a middle zipper inside. We double zip our wallets at all times. It's mostly when you get in a big crowd that you have to be careful. But you just keep it real close to your side.
For all of you who think that I am developing mad Mandarin skills, boy do I have a story for you. I'm trying to talk to Hong today and tell her that I will see her on Friday. Well, instead of saying Friday I said 5 o'clock. ( see once you know your numbers you only have to learn the word for day, month and o'clock because they use numbers to say what it is, each day or month doesn't have their own specific name) She had a horrified look on her face because she thought I wanted her to stay longer today. Levi was yelling from the living room, "no mom you're saying 5 o'clock not Friday". So I guess the moral of the story is that you all don't have to worry about me becoming fluent in Mandarin any time soon.
Today I went grocery shopping! I know that doesn't sound very exciting, but I was quite proud of myself because each time I go to the Carrefour I venture a little deeper into it and become a little more adventuresome in what I buy. I even bought the non hazard apples today:) It's good to know that there are options. There are just so many smells in that store and some really, really gross looking things. So I felt like it was a major accomplishment.
Speaking of smells, after raining most of the morning the smell here was unimaginable. When it rains here it just stirs up the sewer (and the sidewalks Karen) and the smell just permeates the air. I guess you would have to experience it to believe it. Elise and I decided today that it was a smell that we weren't soon going to get used too.
Well, I'm off to bed so Happy Monday to all of you.
Happy Birthday Uncle Eddie!!!!!!!! We love you!

Ya lost me on the day/month/time thing. So how would "Monday" translate to Mandarin? Do you use the word "day" and then some hour?
What are non-hazard apples? Just ordinary apples that you're no longer afraid to buy?
Baseball season has begun here...the first one for the Osbornes. It's MUCH busier than football season was. Ben has three practices a week, plus he starts two games a week this weekend. Now I understand how busy you all must have been when your boys played baseball.
What is the sport of choice in China? Are sports as much of a passion there as here?
Hope you don't mind a gajillion questions. Just trying to learn more about a ginormous place!
Betsy
Jacob - Thank you for the Head to Toe endorsement. If we ever get to visit, I may send Scott to get his sox rocked. I bet you and your bro's all are looking pretty fly with your fresh new do's (Aunt Laurie might even say "slammin!").
That's poopy that you can't enjoy the smell after a good rain there. The next time it rains here I'll take an extra deep sniff and be sure to enjoy it twice as much. I guess that's one of those things I shouldn't take for granted. Luckily, we've had pretty nice weather here this weekend. Mom and Dad are about ready to bring the trailer up to Mesick for the summer. I think we're going up this weekend for the first camping trip this year. Here's hoping the weather stays nice until then:). Mom has the trailer ready for all her special visitors this summer. She even has a blow up cot that folds up like a bag chair. We pulled it out to look at it and then it took us 15 minutes of grunting and tugging to get it back in the bag. She's decided that whomever uses it has to then put it away so you're all welcome to it! I think I'd rather sleep on the floor:).
Thanks for the update!
Love, Angie
