Well my settings are back in English again, which is a beautiful thing. I had posted the other night but I saved it as a draft instead of publishing it because I couldn't read the Chinese.
So...on with our lives again.
Let me just say when it rains in Shanghai, it rains!! The wind whips, and you find out just how dirty it is here because the sidewalks turn muddy. (or could that be something else)
It was kind of a crazy weekend as we unpacked and unpacked. It is starting to look and feel like home as our 173 boxes are dwindling to less than 15. I realized that I have been very spoiled every time I move because Mark's mom has always unpacked my kitchen for me. It takes a lot of brain power to try and figure out where to put all of that stuff!!!!
Highlights of the weekend:
Friday night we went to Blue Frog with some other Dow Corning families. Noah and Levi played "foooootball" (soccer from the British) with a bunch of British kids. Elise walked home with her friend and watched a movie and Jacob went to movie night at school with some friends.
Saturday the boys all went to the orthodontist. Yes, they all need braces! Suprise, suprise! Jacob is ready to start right now but Noah and Levi still each need to lose 11 baby teeth. Dr. Carole Lea is the cutest little dentist. She thinks she will put different colored braces on the boys so that she can tell them apart. She also thinks I am a very lucky woman to have "3 beautiful boys". She was so funny! She saw Jacob first, then Noah and Levi was last. When she got to Levi she said, "oh my they are the same, the only difference is Levi you have a 5mm gap between your teeth and your brothers is only 3mm, plus your brother, he have better oral hygiene". So she is going to work on closing their gaps for now. I think that would be a very good start. I told my friends I won't be able to shop anymore because I will have 3 in braces. It will probably be like college tution!!!
Since I'm a glutton for punishment I went back to IKEA Saturday night because that same wooden shelf that Hang Lei and I left the legs behind, well I forgot to buy brackets for it. So since Elise was going bowling with friends Nancy and I decided to go back to IKEA. OK, here's my first gross sighting of the weekend, I'm standing in line and a worker who was taking care of carts went "hhrrrreckkkk!" and spit a big fat nasty goober right on the floor next to me. I thought I was going to toss my cookies! Then when I got up to the register to pay I had this big cart with a shelving unit on it and so I had it real close to the counter so the clerk could scan it. Well this lady and her little kid tried to fit through the two inches that I had left. Well I waved her around and she got ticked at me. The nerve! I think she knew a little english because she was sure to call me a bad name. Oh you just gotta love IKEA. You all just think that I go there so that I have something to blog about.
Today I could've left church after worship. It was everything that I needed in worship. There are so many different nationalities there all worshipping and praising the one true God. It brought tears to my eyes. However, we did not leave. We had to listen to some chic preach from Australia. For all of you who know what I believe you can figure out what is wrong with that sentence. Elise went to youth service today which is held at the same time. It was the first time since we've been here that she has been able to go. I think it is sort of like Yound life. The group is called oneeighty which I think is a pretty cool name. Beth and Wen, God gave Elise a little gift today in that the very first worship song they sang was Inside out. Pretty cool huh!
Ok for the second gross sighting of the weekend: Yep you guessed it, another little girl squatting on the sidewalk going potty.
Speaking of potty, I forgot to share my first encounter with the squatty potty story. When Mary, Nancy and I went shopping Friday we were at this beautiful new mall. Of course as women we had to go potty. So we go in the bathroom and lots and lots of squatty potties. Well Mary started flinging doors open saying, "I bet there is a real toilet here somewhere". Thank goodness for her there was. The last door had a real toilet in it but it was all wrapped in a bag and they were using it for their mop closet. So Mary ripped all of the paper and bag off the toilet (much to the washroom attendants dismay) and I went in first. Of course no toilet paper because why would you need that in a mop closet. Thank goodness for Charmin to go. Then no soap in the dispenser. Thank goodness for Purell. Yes, two things that every American woman carries in her purse in China!!!!! So needless to say, I still haven't (thankfully) had to use a squatty potty.
My fingers hurt, so later to all of you!!!

Hi- Boy do I wish that i was there to organize your kitchen and see everyone. Talk about organizing kitchens Ang & I worked in the trailer all afternoon Sat trying to get things hauled out there and organized. Even though it is basically the same set up, the cupboard sizes are different and the storage space is all different. After shopping most of the day Sunday I think I am finally done and it is ready to go. Dad washed & waxed the outside this year so that was a really big help.
Looking forward to seeing you guys this July and using it with you.
It sounds like you are really busy getting organized now. It must be nice to have all of your things from home and know that soon your new home will be liveable and comfortable. It sounds like you have a great driver and ayi to help you out.
I can just see you pushing the lady at the IKEA store. I don't think that would be my type of store to shop at... It will be really interesting to come visit and see all these places that you talk about.
Well I got to get back to work. Keep up the blog I really enjoy reading it and knowing what you are doing.
Love, MOM
