Today, I went to a hospital with two of my friends, throught an orginization called Love without Boundaries. Volunteers go into hospitals and spend time with abandonded babies who have serious medical problems and are waiting to be "fixed" so that they can be adopted. Today we saw Baby En. He was a beautiful baby that was two months old. His skin was so ashen and you could tell he had a hard time breathing. It is so sad because a baby in the states would have a ventilator and many other things hooked up to them. None of these babies did. It seemed like survival of the fittest. Each baby is assigned an ayi who basically cares for the baby but lays right in the bed with them. I watched an ayi blow into a babies bottle to warm it up. How sanitary is that. We are so fortunate in the states. The really cool thing is that all of the money was raised pretty much through expats to fund this little boys surgery in about 10 days. It was a really neat experience and we are planning on going back.
Until next time....

Heard about your blog and was anxious to read about your happenings so far. I'm so glad to hear that you are all doing well and having fun adjusting to life in China. I will be anxious to "experience" some of the life in China by reading your blogs. I'm sure you will have alot of funny things to share. Natalie, it's spring (well, kinda) and I wish you were around to walk in the mornings again. Now I can sleep in without feeling guilty that you're sitting in your car in my driveway! ;-) Hope all continues to go well for you! Love & Prayers, Annette Shafer
